Marvel at monumental mosques
Lahore is renowned for its grand mosques, the most famous being the Badshahi Mosque. Built over 300 years ago, it’s one of the largest mosques in the world – sharing the list with Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The structure stood as a symbol of the Mughal Empire for generations. After years of reconstruction, it’s now almost back to its original 17th century condition. Remember to dress appropriately when you visit, covering your arms, shoulders, chest and legs.
Tour a timeless tomb
Erected in 1637, Jahangir’s Tomb was constructed to house the body of Emperor Jahangir. It was built by his son, designed by his grieving widow and is reminiscent of Abu Dhabi’s Founder Memorial, which celebrates the life and achievements of Sheikh Zayed.
The ornate marble tomb includes calligraphy, minarets and fountains. You’ll also find two other historical establishments close by. The Akbari Sarai is one of the best preserved examples of caravan inns in Pakistan, while the Tomb of Asif Khan is adjacent to Jahangir’s mausoleum.
