Top tips for Abu Dhabi to Chennai
Colourful Kapaleeshwarar Temple
While stylistically very different to Abu Dhabi’s spectacular Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Chennai’s Kapaleeshwarar Temple is stunning in its own right.
The current structure dates back to the 16th century and is said to have been built on the spot where Shiva turned his consort Parvati into a peacock, and ordered her to worship him. The temple is a wonderful place to explore, providing a striking burst of colour among Chennai’s cityscape. When visiting, please dress according to religious customs and cover your head, arms, shoulders and legs.
Discover Chennai’s rich history
Like Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Hosn and Heritage Village, many of Chennai’s top sights celebrate the history of the city. Chennai’s Government Museum is a brilliant exploration of the early years of the city and the wider Indian subcontinent.
It houses stunning collections of 7th-century bronze figures, while entry to the museum also gives you access to the nearby National Gallery, the Contemporary Art Gallery and the Children’s Museum.
