Reasons to visit Casablanca

Head to the Hassan II Mosque

Sitting on a rocky platform reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean, the Hassan II Mosque is perhaps Casablanca’s most famous landmark. One of the biggest mosques in the Muslim world, its painstakingly-crafted interior is a kaleidoscope of wood, marble and onyx.

At every turn there is a pillar, scroll or an embellished door to study and admire, while its 650-foot tall minaret is by far the tallest structure in Morocco. The mosque has space inside for 25,000 worshippers, with a courtyard that can accommodate a further 80,000. It’s open to non-Muslims on accompanied one hour visits. Remember to dress conservatively when you enter, covering your arms, chest, shoulders and legs.
