July and August are the hottest times of year in Germany, with daytime temperatures regularly reaching the mid 20°Cs and above. From May to September, the country is mainly dry.

The museums of Munich

Visit Cologne’s beautiful cathedral

Cologne Cathedral is one of the most visited landmarks in the whole of Germany, with six million people a year making their way to this medieval masterpiece. This great Gothic structure towers above the city, with the slightly taller north tower standing at 516 feet.

Marvel at the architecture and intricate stained glass windows and explore the shrine to the Three Wise Men. Then, climb up 533 steps in the south tower for a breathtaking view over the Rhine.

Walk along the Berlin Wall

The East Side Gallery is a mile-long stretch of the Berlin Wall that still stands today, covered in art that has been painted since the fall of the wall.

The wall divided the city during the Cold War but the gallery, on the banks of the Spree, features paintings and artwork that reflect the celebratory mood as the wall came down and Germany was reunified.
