Jubail Mangrove Park Abu Dhabi is home to a variety of species of birds and animals that are a thrill to discover. Take your camera to capture the moments you encounter gazelle, herons and turtles.
Keep an eye out too for the many water and seabirds – there are some 88 types, including majestic flamingos and herons – as well as crustaceans and fish. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the Greater Spotted Eagle – the park is a protected habitat for this vulnerable species.
Once you’ve covered all the boardwalks, you can get a different perspective on the mangroves by taking to the water. Head to the jetty where you can rent a kayak and tour the surrounding area for one or two hours with a guide.
A one-hour tour is enough to see the mangroves, while the two-hour tour allows you to get a look at the private Ramhan Island nearby.
While the park is a fabulous place to explore by yourself or at your own pace, it’s a completely different experience if you take a guided tour with a ranger.
Enjoy the company of a small group as you wander through the wilderness – the ranger will explain the role of the mangroves in local ecology and point out any animals and wildlife. You’ll be able to ask questions as you explore the park, with several stops along the way.
There are several educational stops along the trails that offer a unique insight into the park’s ecological system. The ‘Salt Collector’ helps to illustrate the changing tides, while ‘Power of the Sea’ gives you more access to the water. ‘Roots of the mangrove’ explores the very heart of the trees.
There’s also a floating platform for a better view of the area’s marine life, as well as a viewing tower to see the park from great heights.
A visit to Jubail Mangrove Park lets you stroll around a special part of Abu Dhabi – a place that feels markedly different to the rest of the city.
There are three separate boardwalks ranging from one to two kilometres long, so you can make your walk as long or short as you want. Each one will take you past key viewing areas and features rest spots along the way.
Jubail Mangrove Park is in the north of Abu Dhabi, situated on Al Jubail Island.

It should take around 20 minutes to drive from the Corniche to the park. Head north-east along Corniche Road, then turn right on to Shinaf Street. Continue on to Sheikh Khalif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Highway E12 and cross the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge. Stay on the highway until you see the exit for Jubail Mangrove Park.
A 12-minute drive will take you from Yas Island to the mangroves. Simply join the E12 and head west. After around 10 miles (15 kilometres), exit for Jubail Mangrove Park which is on the right.
It’s around a 8-minute drive to the park from Saadiyat Island. Again, you’ll want to join the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Highway, this time heading east. Take the exit on your right and follow signs to the Park.
There is free parking on-site, reserved exclusively for visitors to the park. Vehicles must be removed at the end of the day and should not be left overnight.
In the park itself, you’ll find washroom facilities, an information centre and a coffee shop.
There is a restaurant and a choice of food trucks at Jubail Mangrove Park. You cannot take your own food to the park.
The boardwalks are wheelchair and stroller-friendly. There are several rest stops along the boardwalk trails too.
The boardwalk is open seven days a week from 7am-9pm, with last entry at 8pm. This changes throughout the year, so make sure you check the official website for the latest updates. It’s recommended that you book in advance to guarantee your entry.
Yes, and it’s a very child-friendly attraction. Just make sure children under 12 are supervised by an adult at all times. There is a children’s education area inside the park too.
Jubail Mangrove Park is an ecological site that is dedicated to habitat preservation, so you’re unable to eat or drink inside the park. Additionally, there is no smoking, swimming, fishing, cycling or pets allowed.
The park is great to visit at different times of the year and day. However, the park itself recommends that you try and visit at high tide when marine life is most active. The park’s website homepage links to a tide forecast so you can try and time your visit.
