Vietnam enjoys warm weather all year round, with average monthly temperatures staying above 25°C. The warmest months are March through to June, when daytime highs can reach around 35°C.
Humidity is higher during the rainy season from May to October. Conditions can vary across the country, so it’s worth checking them before you fly.

Things to know before you fly to Vietnam
Currency
The currency in Vietnam is the dong (VND). There are ATMs in the cities, where many places accept debit and credit cards. However, it’s a good idea to always carry some cash with you.
Registering your arrival
When checking into your hotel you’ll need to give your passport to staff so they can register your arrival with the local police.
Plugs
Power plug types are A, C and D, carrying 110/220 V at 50Hz. An appliance marked ‘Input 100/230V, 50/60Hz’ will function correctly.
Cultural considerations
Dress conservatively if you’re visiting one of the country’s temples and take off your shoes before going in. It’s considered impolite to have your back facing statues of Buddha and it’s best to ask permission before taking photographs.

What food should I try in Vietnam?
Simple, yet full of delicious flavours, Vietnamese food is renowned the world over. While you’re here, be sure to try the national dish of pho. Pronounced “fuh”, this noodle-based broth contains slivers of beef or chicken with spring onions, coriander, ginger and rice noodles. Cha ca is another favourite – sautéed white fish teamed with spring onions, dill, noodles and peanuts.
