Soak up the coastal charm

When you fly to Mumbai, enjoying a sunset on Marine Drive is an absolute must-do. This scenic stretch is also known as Queen’s Necklace, because of the crescent of street lights lining the road.

The area is buzzing with activity day and night and there’s always something to do. Visit Juhu Beach and Chowpatty Beach – both are great for bazaars, food stalls and relaxing with the locals. Bandra Fort, overlooking the skyline of south Mumbai, is another popular sunset spot.

Something else that inspires awe is the stunning Gothic-style Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station (also known as the Victoria Terminus railway station) – a world heritage site.

The Malabar Hill neighbourhood, meanwhile, includes an incredible number of attractions. Visit the Hanging Gardens and admire the intricate carvings at Babu Amichand Panalal Jain Temple.

Day trip to Elephanta Caves

From the Gateway of India, you can take an hour-long ferry to Elephanta Island (Gharapuri) where you can explore ancient cave temples. The island got its name from the huge stone elephant that used to stand on the south shore.

The caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987 and contain both Hindu carvings and Buddhist effigies. Wandering through the labyrinth of courtyards, shrines and halls, you’ll be able to admire artwork, intricate sculptures and a small on-site museum in this incredible ‘City of Caves’.
