In Azerbaijan, summers are quite hot, and winters very cold. As such, the mildest time to visit is the spring into early summer, from April to June, or in autumn, from September to October.

In July and August, temperatures sit at an average of 27°C or above. January and February are the coldest, at around 5°C or lower.

Traditional Azerbaijan is wonderfully preserved throughout the country, but even more so in Baku’s ancient Old City – with examples dating back as far as the 7th century.

Protected by its UNESCO World Heritage status, you can walk within its sandstone walls and visit the likes of the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Outside of Baku, take the time to visit Sheki, a 2,500-year-old town nestled at the foot of the southern Greater Caucasus Mountain.

Visit Shirvan National Park to explore sand dunes and spot big cats, gazelles and hundreds of species of exotic birds.

If you’re visiting Gabala, then take a trip to the Yeddi Gozel Waterfall to admire the tranquil surroundings. Of course, you can’t travel to Azerbaijan without experiencing incredible mud volcanoes in action – the country boasts the most in the entire world.
