Seychelles – an island paradise

Book flights to the Seychelles to enjoy the kind of sun, sea and sand that dreams are made of.

This gorgeous collection of more than 100 islands in the Indian Ocean is known for its natural beauty, rare animals and tempting Creole food.

Each island in the archipelago has its own character and reasons to visit. Hop from Mahé Island to Praslin and Silhouette Island to experience the best of the Seychelles.

In the capital Victoria, on Mahé Island, you’ll find cultural attractions alongside UNESCO World Heritage Sites, lush green hills and secret coves scattered through the surrounding cays.

From Round Island, you can snorkel in the waters of Sainte Anne National Marine Park, where the fish are joined by giant Seychellois tortoises.

Fly to the Seychelles with Etihad to kickstart your perfect holiday, whether you’re planning a romantic beach-filled honeymoon, or a more adventurous holiday of hiking and diving.

It’s easy to see why the Seychelles is such a popular destination. The islands remain hot and sunny all year round, with temperatures averaging 27°C. Typically, November to January sees the most rainfall.

The south-east trade winds hit the country from May to September, causing slightly rougher seas on some south-facing coasts, important should you be planning a diving trip. From October through to April the gentler north-west trade winds blow.

Mahé Island (SEZ)

Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is on Mahé Island, the largest of the 115 islands that make up the Seychelles. It’s located close to the capital, Victoria, and is a good starting point for exploring the archipelago and its many attractions. Beautiful Morne Seychelles National Park covers a fifth of the island and is well worth exploring, while Victoria boasts good food and shopping.

Reasons to visit the Seychelles

Discover your own beach paradise

White sand beaches and turquoise waters are among the first things to spring to mind when you think about the Seychelles – and with good reason.

Trying to decide which ‘anse’ – Creole for ‘bay’ – to spend your time on can be a challenge, as each beach in the archipelago is utterly beautiful.

Anse Intendance on Mahé’s southern coast boasts white sands, palm trees and dramatic boulders against a backdrop of verdant hills. At the other end of the island, Beau Vallon is Mahé’s longest beach and its most popular, with restaurants and plenty of water sports to enjoy.

Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue Island is often voted the best beach in the world – its stunning features have seen it serve as a location for a string of Hollywood movies.

Explore the Vallée de Mai

The Vallée de Mai on Praslin Island has been described as a modern day Garden of Eden, and it’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It’s one of just two locations where Coco de Mer Palms grow in their natural habitat – a rare form of palm tree that produces the largest seed in the world. There are more than 1,400 of these trees growing in this must-see forest.

Delicious Creole food

Creole flavours abound in the Seychelles and it’s not surprising that fresh fish is always on the menu in this island nation.

Grilled fish is enjoyed across the islands, along with curries flavoured with delicate spices, aromatic lamb stews and coconut-infused rice dishes.

Locals eat breadfruit in lots of different ways, but the most common is fried and salted to make crisps. Grab a bag to try while you’re sightseeing around the islands.

Flying to the Seychelles: FAQs

How do I get around the islands?

Ferries run between most of the main islands and depart throughout the day. Should you want to visit one of the smaller islands, you may need to book on a chartered tour or diving expedition.

How many days do you need to visit the Seychelles?

With 115 islands in its archipelago, you could spend months exploring the Seychelles, but most people manage to see the main sights on two or three islands in a week.

Stay for longer, two weeks or more, and you’ll be able to discover more of the Seychellois way of life.

Is the Seychelles good for a honeymoon?

The Seychelles is the perfect honeymoon destination. There are plenty of secluded islands and once-in-a-lifetime experiences to be had, like watching turtles hatch from their eggs on the beach.

Honeymooning couples can decide to be as active as they like with hiking and diving opportunities or spend their holiday simply relaxing.
