Things to know before you fly to Sydney
Transfers from the airport
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is located a short distance outside the CBD. Pre-book your airport transfer with Etihad for a smooth start to your trip.
You can also rent a car, take a taxi, or catch an Airport Link train which will take you to the centre in about 15 minutes.
Public and school holidays
Accommodation and travel may be more expensive between the middle of December and end of January during Australia’s school summer holiday.
Most shops and businesses close on 25 December, while public transport may also be reduced for about a week during the festive period.
Getting around
A prepaid Opal card makes getting around Sydney’s public transport system cheap and easy. These can be bought and topped up at many city outlets. Opal cards work for buses, trains and ferries in Sydney. The regular ferries are a leisurely and enjoyable way to travel between sights.
Local cuisine
You’ll find every type of global cuisine in Sydney, ranging from traditional fine dining experiences to laidback pizzerias and cafes.
