Explore ancient temples
Once you’ve booked your Indonesia flight tickets, one of the best places to add to your to-do list is the vast ninth-century Borobudur temple complex, as well as the equally impressive but perhaps lesser-known Hindu temple of Prambanan from the same period.

Local cuisine
Indonesian food is famously diverse, reflecting its array of cultural influences. Spicy foods are popular, with national dishes including nasi goreng – fried rice with vegetables or meat – and soto, a chicken soup. Gethuk, a sweet sugar and coconut cake, is a tasty dessert and street food staple.
Language
Locals generally speak Indonesian – but might also use one of 700 different local languages such as Javanese or Balinese. English is widely spoken, however, especially in the cities.
Local currency
The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Haggling is commonplace in markets around the nation, but you probably won’t be able to negotiate on prices in shops and hotels.
