Take a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to see orphaned elephants and rhinos being rehabilitated. The trust flies in baby animals from across the country and cares for them until they’re ready to return to the wild.
Nairobi’s Giraffe Centre is another great spot for getting close to nature. The centre breeds the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe and then releases calves into the wild when they’re about two to three years old. Resident giraffes are tame enough to come right up to you. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to see these African giants and help a good cause.

Nairobi’s vibrant and colourful Maasai markets are some of the city’s best attractions. Don’t miss the chance to pick up a hand-crafted African souvenir, practice your bartering skills, or simply experience the hustle and bustle of the marketplace.

Things to know before you fly to Nairobi
Airport transfers
After you fly to Nairobi, take an Etihad transfer to your hotel – book ahead of time online. Alternatively, you can grab a taxi or jump on a bus heading to downtown Nairobi.
Tipping
Tipping about 10 per cent for good service is expected in restaurants when you’re in Nairobi. If you head out on safari, a tip of about KES 2000 per day is typical.
Getting around Nairobi
You can explore Nairobi in various vehicles, including tuk-tuks, buses, trains, taxis, matatus (mini buses) and boda bodas (moto taxis/motorbikes). Public transport in Nairobi doesn’t have a published schedule, so taxis tend to be the most reliable form of transport.
