Moscow is at its warmest from May to mid-September, when you can expect daytime temperatures of around 15 to 20°C.

Moscow is the place to be if you want to learn more about Russia’s engrossing, and sometimes turbulent, past. The absolute must-see is the Kremlin, home to thousands of treasures from Russia’s history, including a fantastic armoury with traditional royal armour, swords and cannons.
For a glimpse into more recent events, head to the Bunker 42 Cold War Museum, an underground Cold War-era bunker. If art is more your thing, head to the State Tretyakov Gallery, with its vast collection of pre-Soviet fine art or the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, which has a pan-European collection.
Russian culinary delights

In recent years, Moscow’s cuisine has become increasingly innovative with chefs seeking out the freshest local ingredients and reinventing Russian classics for the modern palate.

Relax in Gorky Park
Gorky Park, alongside the Moskva River, is where the locals go when they want some fresh air and relaxation. It was built in 1928 by the Soviet Government as a place for the people of Moscow to socialise.
Once home to fairground rides and a mass of pavement cafes, in 2011 the park was revamped. New areas were created for sports including beach volleyball, petanque and yoga. In summer, there’s an open-air cinema, while in winter you can lace up your skates on the outdoor ice rink. You can even skate around the park, as the paths are flooded and frozen in winter.
Things to know before you fly to Moscow
Airport transfers
Pre-book a transfer with Etihad before you fly and a driver will be waiting for you on arrival. Alternatively, take a taxi into the centre. Aeroexpress trains leave from Sheremetyevo (SVO) to the city leave every 30-40 minutes. It takes around 50 minutes to get to Belorussky Station.
Public holidays
Russians are proud of their history and culture. Russia Day on June 12 celebrates the establishment of Russia’s sovereignty from the Soviet Union and is marked with firework displays and outdoor concerts. Victory Day on May 9 remembers those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
Getting around
Moscow’s Metro is extensive and efficient. It’s generally the best way to get around the city, and there are frequent stops at many of the key landmarks. It’s also a historical wonder, with many stations sporting marble walls and painted ceilings.
Local cuisine
Moscow is a very international city but you can still find many traditional restaurants. Russian cuisine tends to be hearty, with stews and dumplings forming the centre of many meals. The Eastern European classic beetroot soup, borscht, is on many menus.
