Things to know before you fly to Vienna
Airport transfers
Vienna International Airport (VIE) is situated 14 miles (23 kilometres) southeast of the city centre. To get to central Vienna, you can either catch a train, a bus or hail a taxi. It’s also possible to book a private airport transfer directly to your chosen hotel in advance through Etihad.
Getting around
Vienna has a very efficient public transport system that stretches throughout the city. Regular bus, tram and metro (U-Bahn and S-Bahn) services run throughout the day, making it easy to see many of Vienna’s most popular sights. You can flag down local taxis or book a ride with taxi apps ahead of time too.
Public holidays
There are several public holidays in Austria you may want to make a note of if you’re planning on booking flights to Vienna. Christmas, Easter and Whitsun are all national holiday periods where shops, restaurants and attractions may have restricted opening times. Saint Leopold’s Day (which celebrates Austria’s patron saint) on 15 November is also a holiday in Vienna.
