Things to know before you fly

Airport transfers

Astana flights with Etihad Airways arrive at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (TSE), around 10 miles outside the city.

Book a transfer with Etihad and get picked up in arrivals – the transfer should take around 25 minutes. Alternatively, take a taxi or one of the regular bus services to the city centre.

Local cuisine

Food in Astana is typically hearty and delicious. Local dishes to look out for include shashlik, cubes of meat skewered and cooked over coals, and manti – a Kazakh dumpling, typically stuffed with ground lamb and squash, and served with sour cream for dipping.

Getting around Astana

You can see most of Astana/Nur-Sultan’s main sights on foot once you’re in the heart of the city. There are also many bike rental docking stations across the streets, if you want to make the most of your time and see even more. The city bus network is also fantastic.
